Victoria University of Wellington has retained InterSearch New Zealand Limited to assist in its search to appoint a Professor in Sociology.
2007 will mark 50 years of teaching in Sociology at Victoria University of Wellington. The Professor in Sociology is a key appointment within the School of Cultural and Social Studies, one of nine schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Victoria University of Wellington was one of only two New Zealand universities to rank in the top 100 in the 2006 THES rankings, with Social Sciences ranked 63.
The Sociology programme includes several courses which are double-labelled with Social Policy, demonstrating a commitment to an integration of teaching within the two disciplines. Established in 2001, the School of Social and Cultural Studies brings together the respective teaching, research and scholarship strengths of Anthropology, Criminology, Social Policy, Social Science Research and Sociology. The School’s structure allows for a collection of disciplines each with a clear and explicit research agenda which share a theoretical tradition.
Sociology has a vibrant research programme based on specialist research interests in citizenship, ethnicity, gender relations, health, policy analysis, the body, ethics, globalization and social movements.
Applicants will have an accomplished record in research and teaching in Sociology. The appointee will be expected to provide strong academic leadership to the staff of the sociology/social policy programme and in the School as well as contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
