Asian youth and childhoods conference slated in India

September 25th, 2007

The 8th International Conference on Asian Youth and Childhoods will take place in the City of Lucknow in the capital of Uttar Pradesh, North India from November 22-24, 2007. This is jointly organized by Jai Narain Post Graduate (JNPG) College (Lucknow) and the Circle for Child and Youth Research Cooperation (CCYRC) in India. This is an official event of the Research Committee of Youth (RC 34) & Research Committee of Childhood (RC 53) of the International Sociological Association (ISA).

In recent years, Asian youth conferences took place in Macau, Shanghai and Beijing, China, and now, for the first time, in India. These events  gather youth researchers, practitioners and policy-makers around the world, to share and generate ideas and practices on the state and problems of young people across cultures.

The general theme of this upcoming conference is Asian Youth and Childhoods across the World. The major goals focus on: (a) disseminating updated information on youth and childhood research, theory and methodology; (b) facilitating the exchange of information across disciplines and among individuals, groups and institutions; (c) reaching-out to develop collaboration across youth research groups; and (d) highlighting the positive contribution of research to youth policy and practice.

Apart from the expected stimulating academic discussions, there will be time to enjoy the fascinating culture of India. The historic City of Lucknow is a  beautiful combination of Mughal art and architecture with a modern infrastructure. It is well connected to the major cities of India and is a rapidly emerging metropolis of North India . Situated about 500 kilometers from India’s capital, New Delhi, and close to other  famous tourist destinations such as The Taj Mahal in Agra; the Holy city of Varanasi; the spiritual capitals of Hinduism such as Hardwar and Rishikesh; as well as the famous palaces of the Maharajahs of Rajasthan.
