RC34 Ad hoc
Executive Board meeting

Helena Helve (President), Carmen Leccardi (Advisory Board), Lynne Chisholm (past President), Carles Feixa (Vice President, Europe), Howard Williamson (Organisational Secretary

Further to Jim Cote request to establish a clear strategic direction for the Oslo conference in June 2005, the meeting considered the timetable for a range of RC34 events leading towards the World Congress in Durban in 2006

Carmen Leccardi informed the meeting that the planned conference in Salerno in September 2004 had been cancelled and re-scheduled for February 2005; This meant that it would not be possible to dovetail a progress meeting of the Board at that time. Consideration was given to Jim’s proposal for a steering group meeting re. Oslo to be held in Canada towards the end of May/June 2004; Everyone was under extreme pressures of time. The meeting was itself squeezed into a small time slot, but at least permitted a measured overview of the timetabling requirements for future. Further, while some individuals had already been identified as potential contributors to the Oslo conference, it was felt the net needed to be cast more widely (a) through notice on the IBYR website, (b) through proactivity by RC34 Vice-Presidents, and (c) through a targeted communication at those who had made a valued contribution to Brisbane Lynne Chisholm to provide names. Though Norway had agreed to fund an initial planning meeting for Oslo, further funding had still to be formally agreed (and thus Jim’s proposed mini-conferences remained uncertain at this stage). Moreover, it was not completely clear about the scale, duration and function of the research contribution to the Oslo event; This needs further clarification [Helena Helve to contact Ola Stafseng.
