1. Prof. Ngai briefed members regarding the purpose of the meeting for the discussion of the application for organizing The 7th International Conference on Asian Youth Issues submitted by the Education and Youth Bureau, Macao Special Administrative Region Government.

2. Upon the invitation of Prof. Helena Helve, the Chairperson, Mr. Chang Chi Meng and Mr. Choi Cheong briefed members regarding their application and the proposal for organizing the Conference. They planned to organize the Conference in December 2005 with the theme “Opportunities and Challenges of the New Generation” in Macao. They would provide free lodging and meals for 30 invited participants recommended by RC 34 during the period of the Conference.

3. After thorough deliberation, the meeting resolved that the Education and Youth Bureau, Macao Special Administrative Region Government was granted the privilege to organize The 7th International Conference on Asian Youth Issues in December 2005 in Macao with the following reasons.

a) The Education and Youth Bureau of Macao Special Administrative Region Government had successfully hosted three similar conferences in 1994, 1999, and 2001 respectively. They owned the experience in hosting international conference and had demonstrated strong commitment to achieve effective conference outcome.

b) The theme was timely and broad enough to cover RC34 youth researchers’ diverse interests.

c) They were generous to grant 30 recommended participants with free hotel accommodation and meals during the Conference period.

d) They had sufficient time to plan and organize the Conference.

4. In order to enhance the attractiveness of the Conference, members suggested the following points for further consideration:

a) It would promote collaborative research among participants with similar research interest if the Conference could provide them with a session for sharing and brainstorming on common interested theme of research.

b) Since Macao was close to Hong Kong and Mainland China, visits to these places would make the Conference more attractive and interesting.

c) Partial airfare sponsorship for some of the recommended participants would be an advantage to encourage overseas participation.

d) Early promotion of the Conference would facilitate potential participants to plan and apply for funding.

5. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15p.m.
