Your Role

Research activities

During the last three decades, context and structures of youth development have considerably changed in Europe. Education and training, competitiveness and employability, as well as social and political participation represent only some key words that describe important research agendas as well as the public discourse within this area. Moreover, youth development in today’s society also implies intergenerational relations and the discussion about the distribution of public resources as indicated by the concepts of “resource fairness” and solidarity between generations.
The Associate Professor will be member of the research unit INSIDE (Integrative Research Unit on Social and Individual Development) within the FLSHASE that studies all these topics. Here, he/she will join the “Institute for Research on Generations and Family” as a member of the group on youth research directed by Professor Dr Helmut Willems.
The candidate will contribute to youth research within the already existing national and international structures and networks. In this, he/she will participate in the national perennial youth report and further research projects in cooperation with national ministries. He/she will also apply for funding within domains specific to youth research offered by the Luxembourg Research Fund as well as by European funding programmes (e.g., Horizon2020).
Several options for collaborative and interdisciplinary research exist within the research unit as well as at the Faculty level on issues of sustainable socio-economic development, learning in multilingual and multicultural contexts, and intercultural studies.

Teaching activities

The Associate Professor in Youth Studies will teach in existing programmes at the Bachelor and Master’s level according to his/her competence profile; the successful candidate is as well invited to contribute to the Doctoral School in Social Sciences.
At the Bachelor level both the “Bachelor en Sciences de l’éducation” as well as the “Bachelor en Sciences sociales et éducatives” will need further support concerning the teaching of context and structures of youth development.
