Seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist in the area of life course studies, with a strong background in methods. The position will contribute to Professor Michael Shanahan’s research program in the Department of Sociology and the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth at the University of Zurich (http://jacobsfoundation.org/project/jacobs-center-zurich/). The Jacobs Center at UZH has excellent infrastructure and will be home to 6 new professors in sociology, economics, and psychology. This new center will focus on cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research on child and youth development. Research will focus on the integration of social science and biological (genetic and biomarker) data. Of special interest is gene transcription data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent and Adult Health (Harris & Shanahan, PIs). Substantive interests span a broad range of life course topics including, for example, health, disadvantage, and attainments.
The contract provides a full-time position and is renewable. Salary is highly competitive. The ideal candidate will have well-developed methodological and statistical skills and basic familiarity with genetics. The applicant will possess a recent PhD degree with the intent of completing a habilitation. The ideal candidate will also have a strong commitment to all phases of research, willingness to work in a collaborative setting, flexibility, and interest in learning new methods. Opportunities to develop skills in the use of genetic data will be provided. International applications are strongly encouraged. Fluency in German is an asset but not necessary. Start date: as early as August, 2016.
