Dr. Kate Tilleczek, the SSHRC-funded Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Young Lives in Global & Local Contexts and the Scientific Director of Young Lives Research Lab (YLRL) at the University of Prince Edward Island seeks applications for the full-time position of Research Project Manager to assist in the ongoing development of a cutting-edge program of scholarship and research. The candidate will be a hybrid professional with both academic research abilities and demonstrated skills in project management and research administration.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting directly to the Scientific Director, the Research Project Manager has primary responsibility for the daily administrative and management operations of all research projects, budgets, finance, staff supervision, and reporting. The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated and has demonstrated excellence in Results-Based Management, project management, financial management, human resources and the operation of successful research projects in a university and/or NGO context.
The successful candidate will perform the following duties:
• Management of multiple research projects, including adherence to: operational policies/procedures, target monitoring, setting priorities, assessing progress, setting time lines, managing budgets, ensuring data gathering, overseeing quality control, and reporting.
• Coordination and communications among faculty teams, staff, collaborators, and stake holders.
• Administration of research grants, research contracts and memoranda of understanding with external funders and university staff (e.g. university Research Services and Human Resources).
• Oversight and administration of funding proposals (familiarity with on-line application processes for SSHRC, CIHR, etc.)
• Oversight of research ethics applications (familiarity with Canadian tri-council and university REB protocols and procedures).
• Identification of ongoing sources of funding in priority areas (monthly)
• Oversight of the daily operation of the YLRL and its Qualitative Research Lab
• Recording the status of all project activity: proposals, ethics documents/approvals, and outcomes
• Manage YLRL Human Resource requirements for research staff such as participating in recruitment processes, liaising with appropriate resources for personnel issues and supervising staff.
• Coordinate Internal and External Research Communications
• Create, manage and oversee annual budgets
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will hold a minimum of a Master’s degree (research based with thesis); a PhD will be considered a strong asset. Applicants will hold project management certification and/or CMA designation and have significant experience in Results-Based Research Management in a thriving university and/or NGO research environment.
• Relevant experience managing complex research projects and research grant compilation
• Demonstrated experience in planning, leading, and executing international research
• Experience in social science research and integrated knowledge translation methods
• Demonstrated experience in financial management
• Experience working with university, government, and community agencies
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication at university scholarship level
• Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and Human Resource Management
• Ability to work with large international faculty teams in a collaborative, collegial manner
