Research Committee 34 (Youth)

Notes of ad hoc RC34 meeting, Moscow, 11th September 2002

Present: Helena Helve (President), Lynne Chisholm (Past President 1998-2002), Ola Stafseng (Past President 1994-1998), Siyka Kovacheva, Victoria Semanova, Howard Williamson (Organisational Secretary)

1.  Lynne’s evaluation/reflection on Brisbane will be dealt with soon

2.  Vice-Presidents to contact national associations regarding corporate membership

3.  IBYR – sorted out between HH and Jim Cote

4.  Activity Plans due to be submitted by September 15th

5.  Next Board meeting provisionally scheduled for China in November

6.  Galvanising South America and Chile 2003: HH to contact Carles Feixa who in turn will be asked to establish a dialogue with Sergio Balardini

7.  Jim Cote has also expressed an interest in an event being held in Canada [but Lynne warned against more than one big event in any one year]

8.  The RC34 book project: a contribution from Russia should be encouraged

9.  Bibliographical reading on youth studies should be compiled as a staple handout for research training courses and other things

10. Norway will celebrate 100 years of independence in 2005, where there will be a focus on children and youth research and some resources to facilitate networks to make a contribution to these celebrations.  Ola to keep RC34 appraised of developments and to suggest appropriate action

11. Elena Omelchenko to be encouraged (by Victoria?) to join RC34 – perhaps a special invitation from Helena

12. Agreed to alter the individual membership/affiliation fee from $40/$20 to $50/$10.  For organisational affiliation it was proposed that a sliding scale according to region (A,B,C) and size of membership (up to 50, 51-100, over 100)should be instituted.  Specific amounts were not agreed.
